Strong immune system and increased vitality are two of the most important benefits of incorporating whole juice drinks in one’s diet. Instead of taking all sorts of vitamin pills and artificial food supplements drinking juices prepared freshly at home is far more beneficial because it contains the nutrients in concentrated, live form that your body can absorb more efficiently.

A wide choice of juicers is available on the market today in all price ranges. Before deciding which brand/model to buy it pays to think through several factors like the type of produce to be juiced (fruits, vegetables or both), frequency of juicing and price.

Types of Juicers
Regarding the method of juice extraction various types of juicers exist.

Centrifugal juicers: these are the most common types of juicing machines. A round steel blade is rotated at high speed by a motor while grinding the produce into finer pieces and squeezing it through the tiny holes of a mesh strainer separating juice from pulp. Centrifugal juicers process well most fruits (apples, citrus fruits, pears, pineapple, pears) and hard vegetables like carrots, beetroot, celery, but they are not good for juicing leafy greens and wheatgrass.

Auger-type Juicers (also known as masticating style juicers)
These type of juicers come in single-auger and twin auger constructions. An auger is rotated at much lower speed than a centrifugal juicer gently crushing and grinding the produce extracting a higher level of live nutrients. This process produces less heat and due to the lower RPM (revolution per minute of the motor) less air gets into the juice preventing oxidation of vitamins and enzymes. Auger type juicers are good for juicing mainly vegetables including leafy greens and most of them work well with wheatgrass and herbs, too.

Here is a selection of the top 5 juicers including both centrifugal and auger-type juicers to help you make a choice.

  • Omega Juicers 9000 Juice Extractor 250 Watts: – It is a well-made all-stainless steel centrifugal juicer without automatic pulp ejection.
